Kimber: Four Months Old

The first 3 months flew by, but the last month seemed to go much slower. Which I love! I feel like I was able to enjoy more time with Kimber instead of being on the run every weekend!

I love getting to know Kimber's personality. She is such a laid back baby and could hang out just about anywhere. She likes to sit in my lap and watch a football game. Or sit in her swing and just stare off into space. I have a feeling this is what Nick was like as a baby since he's so laid back now!

The next 2 months will be interesting. Nick will be working long hours due to harvest season, so I'll be taking care of Kimber by myself most of the time. I'm sure I'll be a walking zombie!!

Weight: 15 pounds, 12.5 ounces {80.84%}
Height: 24.5 inches {54.12%}

Diaper Size: Size 2. Moved up to size 2 diapers on September 2.

Clothing Size: 3-6 month. When I bought Kimber's 3-6 months - I thought it would be September and she'd need all cute fall clothes {read: long sleeved tops & jeans}. Little did I know it would be 90+ degrees for the first 3-4 weeks she's been wearing this size. I've had to go buy short sleeved onsies & shorts to get through the last couple of weeks. The nice thing is they've all been on clearance!

Sleeping:  Not so great the last month. Kimber slept through the night for about 4 weeks {10 weeks to 14 weeks} but the last couple of weeks haven't been as good. We went camping over Labor Day weekend, stayed in a hotel when we traveled to Omaha, transitioned her to her crib and she was stuffed up for a couple days - within a 3 week period - all these changes impacted her sleeping. She's back to getting up once a night for a feeding and then falling back to sleep. There was a couple nights that she was up several times a night, especially when she was stuffed up and couldn't breath, but I'm hoping we're past that at this point. We typically put her to bed in her crib at 9pm, she wakes up at 1am for a feeding, we put her back to bed in the RNP and we wake her up at 6:15am. Nick & I switch nights on who gets up with her {but if she wants to eat, I still get up to nurse her} so I haven't been too tired during the day at work.

Her napping schedule is routine from day to day. She takes 2 cat naps in the morning. One on the way to daycare at 7am. Another one at 10am when they go on their daily walk. She takes a longer nap in the afternoon anywhere from 1pm to 3pm. She takes 2 cat naps in the afternoon/evening. One on the way home from daycare at 4pm. Another one around 6pm after she eats supper.

Food: Month 4 of being exclusively on breast milk. This makes me so happy as a mommy. When I was pregnant, I figured I'd give breastfeeding a try. Why wouldn't I try? If it worked, it worked. If not, then we'd use formula. It makes me so happy that I am able to provide for Kimber in this way. And I love when people comment on how chunky she is because I know that I've had a part in making her this way.

She is still eating a 5oz bottle every 3 hours at daycare.

My goal is for her to be exclusively on breast milk until she's 6 months old. I realize this probably means I'll be getting up with her for night time feeding for the next 2 months, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for her to get the benefits of only be on breast milk.

Likes: Watching the ceiling fan. Walks. Activity Gym. Swing. TV. Ziggy.

If there is a ceiling fan in the room, it's a guarantee that Kimber will be watching it. It doesn't matter how many toys are around her or who is trying to play with her. It's the most exciting thing to her & she can't take her eyes off of it!

The weather has been amazing the last 2 weeks. After I pick up Kimber from daycare, we go straight to the walking trails in Story City. She usually sleeps the entire time, but at least she's not crying like she did when she was only a couple weeks old! She also goes on 1 or 2 walks a day at daycare - so she's getting lots of exercise!!

The activity gym gets used on a daily basis. It's easy to put her under the gym while we're getting dinner ready, doing dishes or other chores around the house. She is talking more & more to her toys and loves to look in the mirror at herself!

Another activity that keeps Kimber entertained is the swing. She wasn't a huge fan of it when I was on maternity leave - probably because she preferred to be held by me! {or maybe I preferred to hold & snuggle with her?!} Either way - she's gotten used to it and can spend hours in the swing {not that we leave her in there for hours!}. Again, it's nice to put her in the swing when we're trying to get things done around the house. Or when she wakes up at 4am and wants to play but we can't keep our eyes open!!

Oh the TV. If she isn't watching a ceiling fan - she's watching TV. We always have it on in the living room & that's where she spends most of her time. It's funny because we're not the types to watch a lot of TV {we don't even have cable!} but it's usually on for background noise. Anytime music or flashing lights come on the TV - she's straining her head to see what is going on!

I introduced you to Ziggy here: Meet Ziggy Kimber loves her! I started giving it to her when she was first starting to play with toys. Now, if she's within reach - it's the first thing Kimber goes for and snuggles into it. I can see her eyes light up when I put Ziggy next to her.

Disikes: Held like baby. Being bored.

Kimber doesn't like to be held like a baby much these days.  She would rather be held upright or facing forward to see what is going on around her. The only time she tolerates being held across the body is when she's really tired and is ready for a nap. I hold her this way and she's usually asleep within a couple minutes.

She doesn't like to be bored or in one spot for too long. At night, it seems like we're moving her from one spot to the next while we're getting dinner ready - her activity mat to the bumbo to the rocker chair to the swing.

Things to note:
Labor Day weekend we went on a camping trip with Nick's family. TJ and Haley made the trip up with us. The weather was a gorgeous and it was nice to have a low-key weekend with nothing to do but hang out enjoying the company of friends & family. We stayed in Nick's parents camper, so we didn't really have to rough it - but it was still Kimber's first camping experience! Which I'm sure there will be lots of camping in her future with Gramma & Papa!

A couple weeks ago, I hosted Nancy's bridal shower & bachelorette party. Since both Nick & I were going to be out all night {he went to the bachelor party}, I wasn't sure who was going to watch Kimber. Uncle Doug offered to come down to Omaha to watch her. He's so great with kids that I didn't hesitate at all to say yes. He even took her swimming at the hotel and she loved it! I'm thinking of going to the hotel pool in Story City this winter so she can do some more swim time!

Kimber has been sleeping in the Rock N Play next to our bed since she was born. We started the transition to her crib on September 8. At this point, she has not slept through the night in her crib. If she woke up in the middle of the night, I would feed her and then put her back to sleep in the RNP. But starting this week, our plan is to have her stay in the crib all night and hopefully cut out the nighttime feeding. We'll see how well that goes...

Kimber loves it when Daddy “gnaws" at her neck.  He does this anytime he's with her and it usually gets some pretty cute giggles!! She loves this so much that it's to the point she starts giggling before he even touches her and he's just making the noises!!

"Talking" alot more this month. We will put her under the activity gym and she'll be happy talking to her toys for a good 30 minutes.

In the last week Kimber has started lifting her head when she's laying down, either on the floor or when she's in the car seat. Almost as if she's trying to pull herself up. She's also lifting her feet in the air. It'll only be a matter of time before she's grabbing at her toes!

Kimber had her 2nd round of shots 2 days before she turned 4 months. This round of shots was much different than the first time. The first time she got shots, she slept for 2 days straight and wasn't fussy at all.  This time, when she initially got the shots she was fine & they didn't seem to bother her until the following day. About 24 hours after she got the shots, she started screaming and I couldn't figure out why. Finally I realized that she had a slight fever and was probably uncomfortable due to the shots. I gave her some Tylenol and she was much better within 30 minutes.
